Heat Relief Kits for Homeless
THE TASK
THE RECIPIENT
There are an estimated 553,742 people in the United States experiencing homelessness on a given night, according to the most recent national point-in-time estimate. This represents a rate of approximately 17 people experiencing homelessness per every 10,000 people in the general population.
THE REASON
The most basic needs can make a world of difference to those experiencing homelessness. By making a heat relief kit you can impact someone with a meaningful, thoughtful action.
THE INSTRUCTIONS
These are the instructions for Heat Relief Kits for the Homeless. Questions? Email us at hey@kyndhub.com
1. Locate the instruction sheet included with your kit.
- Find your Kynd Code. Tear the code in half.
- Save your half.
- Put the other half aside to put into the completed kit.
*The Kynd Code allows you to post your finished kit on KyndHub. The recipient code allows them to find your post, connect with you, and share their gratitude for your kyndness (if the have computer access). If the recipient uses their code, you'll get to see where your kit ends up and who benefited from it.
2. Complete the gratitude practice included in your KyndKit.
3. Write Your Letter
Included materials used for this step:
- Folded white card and matching envelope
- Crayons
- Stickers
Steps:
- Use the enclosed markers and stickers to decorate the card and envelope.
- Express your encouragement and include a hopeful message.
- Decorate the front and the inside of the card.
- Can't think of what to write, draw a picture!
- Put your card in the matching envelope.
- Include the recipient portion of the Kynd Code in the card to make it easy to find.
Helpful Tips:
- Do not include a date or year on the letter.
- Avoid politics completely and religion in excess.

5. Pack the Kit
Included materials used for this step:
- The card and envelope you decorated
- Included KyndKit materials
- DO NOT INCLUDE the instruction sheet and Kynd Card. (Those are for you)
- Any other optional items you want to include
- Plastic bag
Steps:
- Pack the materials into the plastic bag
- Seal the bag
- Don't forget to include the Kynd Code.
6. Delivery Options
- Keep the bag with you and hand it out when you see someone in need..
OR
- Get your shipping label from us (no charge) HERE. We will collect the bags and deliver them to local shelters.
7. Go Back to Your Gratitude Exercise
- Write down any additional gratitude you now feel.
- Go to the first prompt "someone you are grateful for".
- Fill out your included Kynd Card and give it to that person.
- Now you've done an act of kyndness, too!
8. Share It
Post your completed kit on KyndHub using your Kynd Code. The recipient of your kit has the option to connect with you on KyndHub using their Kynd Code and you can see where your kit ends up.
